Eating for Beauty

I recently watched the documentary, Hungry for Change.  If you’ve got the time, I highly recommend watching this on Netflix, as it opens your eyes to other aspects of health that aren’t regularly mentioned in mainstream society.  One aspect of the documentary that intrigued me was the author of the book, Eating for Beauty, explanation of what we eat impacts our “beauty.”

Yes, beauty’s in the eye of the beholder, but there are some “standards” of beauty one has to adhere to if they want to be confident in their own skin and feel accepted.  Beauty’s often equated with celebrity beauty, however beauty is an outward .  A lot of what one eats dictates the skin’s response and if it’s oily or clear.  By deviating from the mainstream concepts of the definition of beauty, we should aim to eat to be intrinsically beautiful and to increase our confidence in our skin.

Beauty Minerals:

  • Sulfur: impacts how our skin glows and our overall complexion; can help rebuild keratin and collagen, which are crucial elements for optimal hair, skin and nails; drives nutrients into and out of cell; helps regulate blood sugar and repair tissues
  • Zinc: promotes cell division, repair, and growth; helps produce white blood cells; essential to cleanse the liver; repairs tissues and oxygenates the body; a deficiency can contribute to acne, hair loss or other skin disorders

David Wolfe’s Beauty Food Recommendations:

  • Aloe Vera: believed to encourage rapid healing and lasting youth; contains anti-inflammatory properties; can be used topically or added to juices 1d3c4c53eccc761ccd67c87ed40421c6
  • Coconut Oil: antioxidant rich; helps control blood sugar levels; repairs the skin; assists the thyroid gland; can be used in cooking, directly applied to skin or used in smoothies
  • Cucumbers:  Helps cleanse bodies
  • Figs: calcium and fiber rich, making it beneficial for digestive system; considered most alkalizing of dried fruits
  • Hemp Seed:contains all 9 essential amino acids; high in protein, omega 3 and omega 6; can be used in a salad, as a snack or in yogurt
  • Macademia Nuts: high in selenium; can help clear up skin with ideal combination of zinc and fatty acids
  • Turmeric: Has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti cancer and anti microbial properties; known to purify blood, which is necessary for clear skin
  • Pumpkin Seeds: Great source of B vitamins; contains zinc, phytonutrients and fatty oils; contains anti-parasite properties; helps give glowing skin

These beauty foods have an alkalizing reaction with your body, anti-parasitical effects and contain high levels of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties.
